MVWA 88 Recap
Saturday March 2nd, 2019
Terre Haute, IN
A crowd of seventy three hundred Missouri Valley Wrestling fans saw ‘Charlie Wrestling’ Charlie Blackwell fend off ‘Red Solo Plastic Cup’ Ray McAvay in a wild cage match to retain the MVW title at MVWA 88 last night in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Former MVW champion McAvay pushed Blackwell to the limit in a match with the stipulation that the title would change hands if the champion would have been disqualified. As such, both men made a conscious effort to steer away from any use of weapons during the match.
Blackwell started fast and took McAvay down early for a little mat wrasslin to start. But McAvay soon gained the advantage and landed some heavy shots while using his technical ability to frustrate the champion. Midway through the contest, McAvay took Blackwell back and forth across the ring and slammed his head first into the side of the cage. Blackwell later returned the favor and followed with a series of moves, backdrop, back breaker, and then his finisher Katahajime but the challenger reached the ropes to force the break.
McAvay wrestled the match knowing this might very well be his last best shot at regaining the MVW title. Blackwell fought as if he realized this might be the big legacy moment for him to seize. They exchanged moves and counters as the pace picked up through the middle of the match. Both men showed great skill as they worked into some back and forth, and the crowd loved it.
The match turned at the fifteen minute mark when McAvay had an opportunity to grab the Big Bertha driver from Bert the Janitor after the referee had taken a bump. But keeping to the stipulation of the match, McAvay chose not use the golf club and in the delay and hesitation ended up getting caught by a series of belly to belly suplexes from Blackwell. The champion seized the momentum from there and put McAvay away with the Katahajime.
Post-match, the two weary men met in the middle of the ring. Blackwell extended his hand to McAvay and both men shook hands and hugged. McAvay raised Blackwell’s arm.
WINNER AND STILL MVW CHAMPION: ‘Charlie Wrestling’ Charlie Blackwell @ 19:08
MVW Tag Team Champions Rah and Halitosis aka The Island of Misfit Wrestlers defeated the Dork Dynasty (Leonard and Sheldon Robertson) for the second time in a month to retain the tag belts.
Rah and Halitosis came into the match to prove to themselves that they belonged at the summit of the Missouri Valley Wrestling tag scene. The Dorks wanted to restore order to their universe, regain the tag team title, and most importantly sell more duck calls.
Referee Davey Keels gave both teams a little more latitude and the fans on hand were treated to a battle of contrasts. The Dorks used their scientific wrestling prowess to control the match in large stretches in the early going. They isolated Halitosis and steered clear of his lethal breath while keeping Rah on the outside. The Dorks remained in sync with each other for the few minutes to follow and the champion’s title reign seemed to be jeopardy.
But then the big issue that’s plagued the Dorks the past few weeks reared its ugly head- the fact that sometimes Leonard and Sheldon don’t stay on the same page. The Island of Misfit Wrestler’s manager Regina McGill grabbed Leonard’s foot when he ran the ropes so Leonard threw himself up and over the top rope to splash McGill- which strayed from the Dorks scientific methods. Leonard and Sheldon started bickering back and forth which allowed Rah and Halitosis to take advantage. The champions got back on the front foot and went on a rampage with Leonard stuck in the ring and Sheldon nit-picking every single thing while blowing duck calls intermittently.
Finally, Sheldon hot tagged in but it was too late. Halitosis took out Leonard with his breath. Rah hit Sheldon with the Eye of Rahhhhh!
WINNER AND STILL MVW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS: The Island of Misfit Wrestlers @ 11:46
The final feature match offered the number one contender’s spot for the Women’s title as the prize. Yosemite Samantha survived a brutal encounter with the ‘Queen of the Trailer Park’ Lani Harlot to earn herself another shot at Women’s Champion Christa Carmondy in two weeks.
Harlot started off the match on the front foot as both women battled all over inside and outside the ring. Referee Ron Martin not only had to contend with Harlot and Samantha, he also had to keep Harlot’s White Trash Posse (Shayne and Jaxson) and Yosemite Samantha’s Hanson Sisters (Andrea, Melissa, and Charissa) in check. At one point in the match, Yosemite Samantha and Harlot brawled in the crowd while the White Trash Posse and the Hanson Sisters rumbled at ringside.
The momentum swung both ways throughout the match. Yosemite Samantha caught Harlot in a chair outside the ring. She went all the way around the ring and cannonballed into Harlot. The Hansons dragged the Trailer Park Queen back into the ring. Samantha hooked the legs and Martin made the count.
Afterwards, Women’s Champion Christa Carmondy, who watched the match from the front row, jumped into the ring. Yosemite Samantha tensed up for an attack. Christa tried to calm the situation by extending her hand. After a few tense seconds of uncertainty, Yosemite Samantha shook Christa’s hand and told her she’d see her in two weeks. Christa nodded her head and responded, “Yes. Yes you will.”
WINNER AND NEW #1 CONTENDER FOR THE WOMEN’S TITLE: Yosemite Samantha @ 13:39

So Blackwell leaves with them.
-McMann continues. He tells the remaining trio that sometimes change is needed. Sometimes, the house just needs to be cleaned. At that moment, ‘Redneck’ Bill Dickinson, ‘Dastardly’ Dave Miller, and ‘Dangerous’ Dan Williams attacks Walstreit, Banks, and Beaver from behind. MVW TITLE MATCH: ‘Charlie Wrestling’ Charlie Blackwell © defeated ‘Red Solo Plastic Cup’ Ray McAvay
-Blackwell submits McAvay with the Katahajime.
Blackwell versus McAvay dominated MVW in the fall of 2017 and again at the start of 2019. McAvay’s on the downward slide of his career and tonight he threw caution to the wind against former Les Miserables Blackwell. For his part, Blackwell’s long ascent to the top now seems complete. McAvay pushed Blackwell hard throughout the match and Charlie rose to the occasion in a big way.
Post-match, Blackwell and McAvay shook hands. McAvay raised Blackwell’s arm. And then the SEC hit the ring again. Miller and Williams ejected McAvay the hard way from the ring. Dickinson drove Blackwell to the mat and fired right hand after right hand.
‘Cowboy’ Dan Butler ran to the ring with a steel chair. Miller intercepted him and ate a chairshot from Butler for his efforts. Williams nodded to Dickinson and the SEC took their leave.
