An ugly incident took place in the main event of last night’s Missouri Valley Wrestling house show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
Charlie Blackwell and Ray McAvay
During the match between the number one contender for the MVW Title ‘Red Solo Plastic Cup’ Ray McAvay and P.M.C. Banks from the Sports Entertainment Corporation, McAvay had Banks in a Dragon Sleeper submission hold and was on his way to winning the match. MVW Champion ‘Charlie Wrestling’ Charlie Blackwell, who’d been watching the match unfold from outside the ring, suddenly jumped into the ring with a steel chair and plastered McAvay in the back of the head with it.
Referee Davey Keels immediately disqualified Banks and awarded the win to McAvay. Blackwell smacked McAvay in the back with the chair two more times before climbing out and looking underneath the ring. In the meantime, McAvay’s Les Miserables attacked the other members of the SEC at ringside (Kirk Walstreit, Mr. McMann, and Phil Finebaum) and things were getting tense. Blackwell returned to the ring with a baseball bat and struck McAvay in the back. Blackwell then aimed for McAvay’s surgically repaired neck when Stormy, one of McAvay’s valets and one half of West Texas Adult Entertainment Legends Dark and Stormy ran into the ring and grabbed the bat. In the brief struggle that ensued, the bat accidently struck Stormy in the head and knocked her out.
At that point, everything fell apart and the Les Miserables jumped into the ring. Blackwell immediately exited under the bottom rope and took off for the back with the Les Miserables hot on his trail.
Medical staff immediately came to Stormy’s aid and she spent the night at the Aurora Medical Center in Oshkosh with a mild concussion. McAvay also treated at the hospital for some bruising and left the hospital later on in the evening.
MVW CEO Jill Berg had this to say about the incident:
“I understand that there is a lot of tension and bad feelings between MVW Champion Charlie Blackwell and ‘Red Solo Plastic Cup’ Ray McAvay right now but that does not excuse Charlie Blackwell’s actions tonight at the MVW house show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. We all know over the past couple years, Blackwell and McAvay have wrestled several great matches against each other in their heated rivalry and my preference would be for both men to settle their differences in the ring. I’m sure our devoted fans would feel the same way.”
Berg added that this incident will not be addressed on tonight’s edition of Sunday Night Wrestling as the show has already been put together for airing. She stated the McAvay-Blackwell situation would be tackled on next Sunday night’s show.
