Thunderbolt Smith: Last night was the night Lisa Barbosa-Stevens had been building towards ever since the first night she stepped foot in a Missouri Valley Wrestling ring. Barbosa-Stevens did her homework on the MVW Champion ‘Canadian Cyborg’ Sheline Carrigan in the weeks leading up to their main event encounter at MVWA 75. In the run up to the match, respect was the order of the day as both Carrigan and Barbosa-Steven expressed their admiration for each other.
‘Long Haul’ Rick Hall: That’s right Thunderbolt. Five thousand people piled into Kansas City’s Kemper Arena to see if Carrigan’s long reign at the top of MVW would come to an end at the hands of challenger Lisa Barbosa-Stevens. The Canadian Cyborg has proven to be a resilient champion in fighting off challenges from the likes of Christa Carmondy, ‘Queen Cool’ Leah Iris, and Kathryn Randall Collins. Could she hold off the hard charging Barbosa-Stevens who climbed into the ring with momentum on her side?
Early on, Barbosa-Stevens wasted little time going on the offense. She hit a belly to back suplex on the champion and then a top rope hurricanrana for an early cover. Carrigan roared right back with a German Suplex and then speared Barbosa-Stevens right through the ropes to the floor. Both women were nearly counted out by referee Davey Keels before bringing the action back in. Barbosa-Stevens continued to be aggressive. She brought Carrigan down with a drop toe hold and then a missile dropkick from the top rope. Barbosa-Stevens sent the champion into the corner and hit a springboard forearm and then a splash. Lisa stunned her off the ropes and hit a cobra clutch slam. She made multiple covers that Carrigan kicked out of and kept pressing the action.
Carrigan cut off another springboard and went sunset flip for a shock pin attempt. Barbosa-Stevens hit a wheelbarrow slam off the ropes for another near fall. Both women battle to the apron, and Carrigan tossed Barbosa-Stevens to the floor. Carrigan followed with northern lights suplex and then a dead lift suplex on the floor. Keels nearly counted both contestants out. Carrigan and Barbosa-Stevens barely beat the count back in. They traded chops. Forearms by Barbosa-Stevens and she tried to keep the pace of the match fast with an enziguri but Carrigan’s power game began to turn the tide. Carrigan started off with rolling German Suplexes for a near fall and dropped the challenger with a Michinoku driver for another near fall. Barbosa-Stevens rallied back with a Tiger Bomb and covered for 2.5. She went top rope for a shooting star press but Carrigan got her knees ups. The champion rolled her over for another near fall. Overhead belly to belly by Carrigan lands Barbosa-Stevens in the corner. Carrigan then hit a power bomb and then set up the Canadian Destroyer. She hit it and made the cover for the three count to pull out a tough win.
WINNER AND STILL MVW CHAMPION: Sheline Carrigan at 14:15
Thunderbolt Smith: This was a terrific match. Again, I really thought that going in, Lisa Barbosa-Stevens was primed to win. Sheline Carrigan has been the champion for well over a year and it’s hard to keep getting up for big matches. Barbosa-Stevens had a game plan and she came very close to winning the match. However, like in the matches Carrigan had with Christa Carmondy, it seems as if Sheline hits another gear as the match goes on.
‘Long Haul’ Rick Hall: Thunderbolt, I completely agree. Carrigan’s power game finally slowed Barbosa-Stevens down enough where she could turn the momentum of the match in her favor. I don’t think this one is done quite yet. I think Lisa will get another shot at the champion. She is definitely more than capable of defeating her.
Thunderbolt Smith: Well, let’s move down the card. Regina McGill won the MVW Heartland title from ‘Extreme Pizza Delivery Girl’ Tessa Martin of the Sports Entertainment Corporation at a house show in Carbondale, Illinois three weeks ago. Regina’s sister Dawn has been feuding with Tessa- who used to be her best friend- and Sports Entertainment Genius Mr. McMann.
‘Long Haul’ Rick Hall: Yeah, the Dawn McGill-Mr. McMann feud has been a thing dating back to last year and it blew up big time this weekend. Dawn attacked Mr. McMann with a Singapore Cane in Washington D.C. Saturday night and laid him out. There is some real bad, bad blood between the two right now.
Thunderbolt Smith: Dawn would be in Regina’s corner. Mr. McMann and the SEC would be in Tessa’s. Would there be more fireworks in the offing?
With Dawn McGill watching, Tessa Martin delivers a blow to the back of Heartland Champion Regina McGill.
Like in their match at Arch Wrestling Madness, Tess came out and started fast. She stopped two hurricanrana attempts from Regina and turned them into facebusters. Regina tried to work Tess’s arm but the Extreme Pizza Delivery used her experience to out grapple her. Regina finally got an arm bar but Tess got the ropes. The challenger took a powder to the floor to chat with Mr. McMann and Angels of Death. Once back in, Tess went after Regina’s leg with a series of kicks and then fired a forearm strike. Tess and Regina traded running kicks. Tessa connected with a comer dropkick and slapped on the Cobra Clutch. Regina made it to the ropes and referee Ron Martin called for a break.
Tess tried a little submission wrestling and worked a guillotine. Regina slipped out and hit a suplex for the near fall. She then fought off a brainbuster attempt, but Tess raked the eyes and then tried to choke her out. Tess nailed the brainbuster for another near fall and looked to put an end to the match. She thought she’d done exactly that when Regina was sent to the ropes and came back. Tess hit the kick to the gut and then nailed the champion with a Pizza Cutter. Tess immediately covered and would have had the three count but Dawn McGill reached in and pulled the referee out of the ring. This sent Mr. McMann and the SEC into a frothing meltdown. Ron Martin scolded Dawn and then went back into the ring.
Regina regained control of the match. She hit the lariat and covered- Tess kicked out at 2. Regina worked knee strikes and kicks. Then she unleashed a series of Slingblades on Tess- the final one leaving her vulnerable for a cover. Regina hooked the leg but Tess kicked out. Finally, Regina hit the Pepsi Plunge and that was all.
WINNER AND STILL HEARTLAND CHAMPION: Regina McGill @ 16:35
Thunderbolt Smith: Clearly, Tessa had her dead to rights after hitting the Pizza Cutter. Dawn McGill’s intervention when she pulled the referee out of the ring saved Regina McGill. Which makes what happened afterwards so shocking to everyone.
MVWA 75- Post match Regina McGill © vs. Tessa Martin
Tessa, clearly fuming, glared at referee Ron Martin and then at Dawn McGIll. Dawn and Mr. McMann were shouting at each other from across the ring. Regina stood on the top turnbuckle and held up the Heartland title belt.
Finally, she climbs down and walks over to Tessa- who’s still not happy. Regina surprises everyone by extending her hand. Tessa amazes everyone by actually shaking Regina’s hand. Then Regina stuns the crowd. She turns and blasts Dawn in the face with the Heartland title belt.
Tess pulls a dazed Dawn up, kick to the mid-section, Pizza Cutter. Mr. McMann claps his hands excitedly. Regina drags Dawn over to the corner and wraps her sister’s right leg (Dawn’s good leg as her other knee had reconstructive knee surgery two years ago) around the ringpost and locks it in a figure four leglock hanging upside down off the ring apron.
Mr. McMann taunts Dawn and slaps her in the face a couple times. Then out of nowhere…
Christa Carmondy races down to the ring with a steel chair and slides stomach first into the ring. She takes the chair and drills Mr. McMann in the back.
Tessa charges her- Christa nails her with a steel chair facial.
Angels of Death: Angel Casey and Angel Scott rush in. Christa takes them both down with steel chair shots.
Then Christa slides out of the ring and surprises Regina with a steel chair shot. The hold is released and Regina tumbles to the floor…
Thunderbolt Smith: I couldn’t believe what I was watching. First, Regina McGill turned on her sister and tried to damage her good knee. Then Christa Carmondy- who herself has huge issues with Mr. McMann and the Sports Entertainment Corporation- made her return to MVW and came to the rescue. Afterwards, Dawn was helped to the back and thankfully did not suffer any catastrophic damage to her good knee.
‘Long Haul’ Rick Hall: Shocked. Simply shocked. But Dawn has to be doing some soul-searching here. First her best friend Tessa Martin turns on her- now her sister, flesh and blood, has turned on her. She’s got to be wondering what in world is going on.
Thunderbolt Smith: Well, now that Regina McGill is now a part of the Sports Entertainment Corporation, my guess is now the ‘Extreme Pizza Delivery Girl’ Tessa Martin is going to go after the MVW title.
‘Long Haul’ Rick Hall: Makes sense. But with the return of Christa Carmondy, that top tier is getting crowded. Lisa Barbosa-Stevens will feel as if she deserves another title shot. Carmondy. Tessa. And you can’t forget Kathryn Randall Collins either.
Thunderbolt Smith: So, with that in mind, we turn to the MVW Tag Team Title match that took place right after this incident. MVW Tag Team Champions Angels of Death versus Main Street USA. Remember, Christa Carmondy put both Angel Casey and Angel Scott down with steel chair shots in the post match melee. Would that have any bearing on their match with C.J. Lewis and ‘Queen Cool’ Leah Iris of Main Street USA?
C.J. Lewis came out ready to rock and roll. The former Hooter’s waitress had her way with Angel Casey at the outset and planted her with a powerbomb. Even when Angel Scott tagged in, she had her hands full with Lewis- clearly motivated for the occasion. Both Angels seemed a half a step slow in comparison to Lewis and Iris who were crisper and more fluid in their moves. Main Street USA isolated Scott in their corner and worked quick tags back and forth. Finally, Scott got away and tagged in Casey. She finally went on the offense. Clothesline, jawbreaker, dropkick combo and then a splash for 2. Iris tagged back in and sent Casey to the floor. The SEC’s Prisoner #034291 intervened and kicked Lewis in the face. This brought down Main Street USA’s Kari Ferguson and Kirsten Canfield and they attacked Prisoner #034291. Back in the ring, Iris got the hot tag to C.J. and lit up Casey with rights and head butts. A corner clothesline and bulldog follow for 2 as Casey barely kicked out. Scott hit the ring and tried to cause a disqualification but ‘Queen Cool’ Leah Iris attacked her. Lewis hit the last round and that was all
WINNER AND *NEW* MVW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS: Main Street USA: ‘Queen Cool’ Leah Iris and C.J. Lewis @ 8:42
Post match, Prisoner #034291, Heartland Champion Regina McGill, and ‘Extreme Pizza Delivery Girl’ Tessa Martin hit the ring and attack the new tag champions. Tess blasted Lewis in the back with her oversized pizza box of doom. Prisoner #034291 hit a two handed choke slam on Iris. Ferguson and Canfield jumped into the ring and ran into the SEC buzzsaw. Then…
…former Tag Team champions and members of the SEC Brandi and Wendi Bayless raced down to the ring and jumped Prisoner #034291 and McGill. Ferguson and Canfield then took out Tess. Lewis and Iris tossed Casey and Scott out of the ring.
Thunderbolt Smith: Angels of Death may have been softened up a bit after taking chair shots from Christa Carmondy after the Heartland title match, but Main Street USA looked a lot more determined and motivated than the former champions. Remember, Leah Iris wrestled for the title at the first Missouri Valley Wrestling supershow at MVWA 59 in February 2015 and then again at Arch Wrestling Madness in March 2015. So, she finally gets her first title.
‘Long Haul’ Rick Hall: This turned out to be a middling night for the SEC. No wrestler in the MVW Title match. They pick up the Heartland title only because Mr. McMann convinced Regina McGill to turn on her sister and join the SEC. And then they lost the tag belts at the hands of Main Street USA. With the return of Christa Carmondy and the Bayless Twins, it’s going to be that much harder for the SEC to get in title contention.
Thunderbolt Smith: In other matches from the show…

Thunderbolt Smith: Allen won via count out because both Harlot and Perrin brawled on the outside and didn’t make it back to the ring in time.
