‘The Canadian Cyborg’ Sheline Carrigan took everything that Christa Carmondy threw at her and more as Missouri Valley Wrestling roared back to life in Chicago Sunday afternoon. Carrigan and Carmondy, who’d been wowing fans at independent shows over the past few weeks with their battles, put on a twenty-two minute classic to headline MVW’s return show, Chi-Town rebirth before an audience of nearly three thousand.
MVW Title Match: Sheline Carrigan © vs. Christa Carmondy
Carmondy started fast and served notice to the champion early on. With Carmondy’s Mean Girl, Inc. (Jen and Steph) watching, the challenger dominated the first five minutes of the match and scored two near falls in the fourth and five minute of the match. But then Carrigan began to assert herself and the next five minutes saw both women stand toe to toe and move to move against each other. Carrigan rattled Carmondy’s spine with an Atomic Drop and then planted her with a Spinebuster before unleashing a barrage of kicks and punches on Carmondy. A last-ditch desperation move by Carmondy sent the champion tumbling out of the ring. Christa followed and the two brawled near the steel barricade before both returned to the ring before referee Davey Keels counted them out.
More near falls followed as Carrigan hit several big power moves and Carmondy caught the champion napping with a spinning back kick and nearly pulled off the win. In the end, Carrigan took control of the match in the final five minutes and wore down her opponent. Finally, the Canadian Cyborg hit the Canadian Destroyer and walked away the winner.
However, the show did not end there. After the match, a clearly frustrated Carmondy blamed her Mean Girls Jen and Steph for the loss. As she was berating them in the ring, Mr. McMann led the Sports Entertainment Corporation, who overall had a bad afternoon at the office but we’ll get to that in a moment, out to the ring. Christa had a cup of coffee with the SEC last Spring after walking out on Main Street USA before forming Mean Girls Inc. At Chi-Town Rebirth, Carmondy finally signed on the dotted line and pledged her future to the SEC- much to Jen and Steph’s dismay. Then the SEC (Daisy Cutter-Bomb, Brandi and Wendi Bayless, and Prisoner #034291 attacked Jen and Steph and left them unconscious in the ring.
Christa got on the microphone and shouted at Carrigan that this ‘wasn’t over yet.’ She says signing with the SEC is something she should have done from the beginning as ‘they will take care of the minutia BS’ and allow her to focus on wrestling and wrestling alone.
MVW Tag Team Title Match: The Bayless Twins © vs. Angels of Death (Angel Casey/Angel Scott)
There was a title change at Chi-Town Rebirth and it took place during the Tag Team title match. The Bayless Twins (Brandi and Wendi) have held the belts for over a year- winning the tag title at MVWA 68. Their opponents Angels of Death (Angel Scott and Angel Casey) were four time MVW tag team champions looking for a fifth run with the belts.
The AoD signaled their intent from the outset as Angel Scott tore into Wendi Bayless early and often to put the champions on the back foot. But Wendi would rally back and finally tagged her twin sister Brandi into the match to take on Angel Casey. For the next seven plus minutes, the tag champions isolated Casey from her tag partner and worked seamlessly with each other to put the challengers in peril. However, a rare mistake by Wendi trying to tag back into the match opened the door and then Angel Scott took the hot tag and went crazy in the ring.
The SEC intervened and tried to get the Bayless Twins DQ’d which would lose them the match but keep the tag titles with Brandi and Wendi. However, the crowd was stunned with former PCW Executive Director Dawn McGill led Main Street USA (‘Extreme Pizza Delivery Girl’ Tessa Martin/’Queen Cool’ Leah Iris/Kari Ferguson/Kirsten Canfield) to ringside and brawled with the SEC.
Scott and Casey took advantage of the confusion and hit the Angel Death Drop (A.D.D.) on Wendi Bayless. Before the SEC could react and Mr. McMann could break up the pinfall, Scott rolled up Wendi and referee Ron Martin made the count to give the AoD their fifth reign as MVW Tag Team Champions.
MVW Heartland Title- TV Title Consolidation Match: Kari Ferguson (Heartland ©) vs. Prisoner #034291 (Television ©)
This match pitted Main Street USA (Kari Ferguson) against the SEC (Prisoner #034291). Kari spent much of MVW’s hiatus working on the technical aspects of wrestling and the work paid off dividends against the bigger, stronger MVW Television champion. Ferguson frustrated Prisoner #034291 from the get-go and gradually wore her out. Finally, the SEC tried to interfere late in the match ran into a brick Main Street USA wall. In the end, Canfield used the Crossface Chickenwing to submit Prisoner #034291 and consolidate the TV title into her Heartland championship.
Lisa Barbosa-Stevens vs. Kathryn Randall Collins
Barbosa-Stevens vs. KRC nearly stole the show. Before the hiatus, Barbosa-Stevens eyed a MVW title shot against Sheline Carrigan. KRC also wanted to build her resume to get into the title picture as well. At Chi-Town Rebirth, both women declared their intent in a thrilling twenty-minute time limit draw that left the crowd calling for referee Davey Keels to give them ‘five more minutes.’
