Missouri Valley Wrestling’s Missouri Valley Wrestling Madness Preview

For Missouri Valley Wrestling, Dawn McGill has been the right person at the right time. As MVW lurched through the final months of the year during the transition of ownership to the Missouri Valley Wrestling Supporters Trust, McGill somehow steadied the ship while she slowly rebuilt and retooled the roster from top to bottom. McGill has also upped the ante in taking the show back on the road to build up the grass roots fan base, working smaller venues and even bars to get her young wrestlers much needed experience and get the brand out there. Now, as MVW moves on from a winter of discontent, McGill will check off one of her major objectives since assuming interim control of the company last fall- a return to the pay per view scene.

The last time MVW put on a pay per view show, January 2012’s Winter Wonderland, Callie Urban and Valora Salinas were battling for the MVW title. Valora was at the top of her game in 2012 as wrestling’s ‘Queen of Extreme’ and coming off a near year long title reign. But in the Winter Wonderland main event, Urban outlasted Salinas in an epic twenty-two match to retain the title. Now fast forward four plus years later, a new queen of MVW has risen to the top. In one short year, MVW champion ‘Canadian Cyborg’ Sheline Carrigan went from getting her feet wet at house shows all the way to winning each one of the MVW singles titles. At Saturday night’s Missouri Valley Wrestling Madness in St. Louis, Carrigan will defend the title against the tested and experienced Kathryn Randall Collins in a return match from MVWA 70.

But the road to Missouri Valley Wrestling Madness hasn’t been without its share of pitfalls. The spectre of the ‘Sports Entertainment Genius’ Mr. McMann and his Sports Entertainment Consortium looms in the background. McMann has been critical of McGill for not incorporating his vision of sports entertainment into the MVW product and equally as vocal about his SEC wrestlers being all but shut out from Arch Wrestling Madness. Last weekend, the SEC made clear how they felt about the snub asserting themselves into several matches before McGill finally came out and banned them from ringside unless they’re booked to wrestle. Only the tag team champions, Brandi and Wendi Bayless, will represent the SEC Saturday night.

So how will Mr. McMann respond? We’ll find out this Saturday night.

The card includes:

Ninja Kitty vs. Lt. Katrina Atcheson (of the Kansas Highway Patrol)
The evening will kick off with MVW’s fan favorite Ninja Kitty in singles action against newcomer Lt. Katrina Atcheson in an opening match featuring a distinct clash of styles. Ninja Kitty is a high flier, martial arts master, and uses her ultra-quickness to befuddle and frustrate her opponents. Lt. Atcheson is a bulldog, a technical and highly disciplined wrestling machine who won’t back down from anyone.

‘Extreme Pizza Delivery Girl’ Tessa Martin vs. ‘The Argenta (IL) Rose’ Eva Perrin with John Perrin
Finished with her battle against former tag team partner ‘Texas Cowgirl’ Haley Dallas, Tess was presented with a new challenge this past weekend in the form of Eva Perrin. They met last Saturday night in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Perrin, with a little help from a well-placed lit cigarette to Tess’s leg by her husband, stole an upset win from the Extreme Pizza Delivery Girl. This Saturday night, Tess gets a second shot at the newcomer from the Argenta Heights Trailer Park outside of Argenta, Illinois and will try and avenge last week’s loss.

HEARTLAND TITLE MATCH: Major Svetlana Kovaleski © vs. Kari Ferguson
Kovaleski has run roughshod over Dawn McGill’s young wrestlers over the past few weeks and the situation finally reached a boiling point when Ferguson stepped up and challenged her. Kovaleski has years of experience on her side and will present a challenge for the rookie. Ferguson continues to rebuild her career after her disastrous time in Mr. McMann’s SEC and has thrived under the guidance of Disco Loving, Jet Setting, International Playboy from the East- Sheik Yorbouti. Can Ferguson win gold defeat the wily Kovaleski. Or will the Russian prove her point that the young MVW wrestlers aren’t ready for prime time quite yet.

TELEVISION TITLE MATCH: ‘Queen Cool’ Leah Iris © vs. Carrieanne McDermott
McDermott set her sights on the TV belt a few weeks back and made it clear she meant business by interjecting herself into Leah’s matches. The Scot earned herself a title match at Arch Wrestling Madness by defeating the SEC’s Daisy Cutter-Bomb at a recent House show and now has her chance at Iris. As for the champion, Iris has defeated all comers since winning the TV belt back in October 2015 and faces potentially her toughest challenge yet in the form of the MVW original.

GRUDGE MATCH- PART 3: Christa Carmondy (Main Street USA) vs. Poison Penny (Green World Order)
In this third edition of Carmondy vs. Penny, can someone finally produce a clean win over the other? At MVWA 69, Penny walked out of the match in protest of the match stipulation (bra vs. panties) imposed by Mr. McMann. At MVWA 70, Christa pinned Penny but the referee saw Carmondy’s feet on the ropes and disqualified her, giving the win to the former MVW champion. Poison Penny did not want this match. She was very vociferous about wanting a MVW title shot against Sheline Carrigan. Christa Carmondy desperately wanted this match and desperately wants to defeat Penny clean. Will this edition finally give us a definite winner? Stay tuned.

MVW TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: The Bayless Twins (Brandi and Wendi) © (of the Sports Entertainment Consortium) vs. Angels of Death (Angel Scott/Angel Casey)
The former four time tag team champions defeated the Bayless Twins at MVWA 70 as the champions simply left the ring and were counted out. Then the SEC forced Scott and Casey to endure four gauntlet matches in order to get another title shot at Arch Wrestling Madness. Will the AoD make it five title reigns? Will ‘Sports Entertainment Genius’ Mr. McMann have a few tricks up his sleeves? You know the SEC will be watching this closely from the back.

MAIN EVENT/MVW TITLE MATCH: ‘Canadian Cyborg’ Sheline Carrigan © w/Jill Berg vs. Kathryn Randall Collins
And then the feature match of the night. Carrigan, with her advocate Jill Berg guiding her each step of the way, continues to improve exponentially inside the ring with each passing week. Is this the night she cements herself at the top of the MVW mountain? Or can KRC reach down deep and turn back time to pull off an upset win?

All these answers and more will be coming this Saturday night at MVW’s Missouri Valley Wrestling Madness.
